May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Observed by Mental Health America and its affiliates since 1949, the 31 days of May are set aside to provide foundational knowledge about mental health and break the stigma surrounding mental health conditions. Mental health matters! Positive mental health is essential to living a happy, healthy, and productive life, but problems with mental health can cause us to struggle in all areas. If you or someone you know is battling mental health issues, know that you’re not alone. Resources are available. Contact SAMSHA’s National Hotline at 1800.662.4357 for confidential, free information.

Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we communicate with others, perform daily tasks, our physical health, and almost every other aspect of our lives. Much like physical health, poor mental health does not mean mental illness; however, declines in mental health should be taken seriously, without shame. Factors contributing to mental health include trauma, abuse, chronic medical conditions, and biological factors. And more than 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental health disorder at some point in their lifetime.

If you’re searching for ways to improve your mental health, try these. And remember, we’re all in this together! Love and Hugs!
