Product Reviews: Pinot and Planners for Black Women

Recently, I discovered two bomb, black-owned brands with luxury offerings: HerSpace Co and McBride Sisters Collection. Both businesses were created by sisters with inspirational stories. And both companies produce products that are incredibly top-tier. From planners to pinot, read on for our review of Modern Black Woman Magic.

McBride Sisters Collection: Black Girl Magic Wines

During my usual stroll through Target, I spotted a wine display featuring a variety of wines, including Black Girl Magic Rosé and Black Girl Magic Sparkling Brut. I was both startled and intrigued by the names, so I moved closer to the display. At the top, I could see a banner featuring the creators and owners of the brand: Andréa and Robin McBride – two black women. Relieved by this sighting, I grabbed a bottle of Black Girl Magic Rosé to try out later in the evening. And I must say, it did not disappoint. The taste was crisp, refreshing, and strong (13%, to be exact).

I couldn’t help but want to know more about the duo who developed it. After reading the story of how the sisters discovered one another and their passion for wine, I’m committed to buying and trying more McBride Sister Wine. I mean, I’m going to drink wine either way, and I may as well support black women while doing so! Plus, I don’t have to compromise taste or my budget. Black Girl Magic Rosé is available for $16.99 for those 21+.

HerSpace Co: Layered Living Planner

I can take no credit for the introduction of this brand – my wonderful best friend gifted me with HerSpace Co’s Season 5 Limited Edition Anniversary Box, which includes the 2022 Layered Living Planner, and it is nothing short of inspiring. Each page of the planner is so well-thought-out with writing prompts, passages, and words of encouragement. The set also includes an amazing sandalwood candle and a notebook and pen set that can be purchased separately if you wish. The graphics are excellent, even down to the tissue paper.

HerSpace Co’s creators, Tinisha Carothers and Brittani Hunt, have been sorority sisters and friends since 2006. They credited HerSpace Co’s inception to a weekend with Oprah nearly a decade ago. “In 2014, we sat in the Palace of Auburn Hills arena for Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend. We were right in the middle of our own individual life transitions – jobs, engagement, relocation, degree completion, relationships, financial strain, spiritual droughts, mothering, and Bar examination preparations. We were tired and discouraged. And so there we sat, in a room full of thousands of middle-aged women who seemed to be discouraged and tired too. We listened. We talked. We danced. We laughed. We shared. We connected. We cried. And then we realized.” The realization? That modern women needed a space to be and become – a space HerSpace Co happily provides. The essential 2022 Layered Living Planner is available for $58. Though a tad pricy, it’s worth every cent.
