Reclaiming Your Feminine Energy
As a modern-day black woman, it can be hard to rest in our feminine energy. Racism, sexism, strategic singlehood, single parenting, and workplace issues are just a few of the circumstances we face that may require a more authoritarian approach than our feminine powers might allow. Where this is the case, we may find ourselves expending masculine energy to control situations and take forceful action. Though this masculine energy can assist us in accomplishing tasks and solving problems, embodying it as our core energy while resisting our femininity can create disharmony within ourselves.
Researchers and philosophers have understood that humans need both masculine and feminine energies to survive for centuries. These polar and complementary energies exist in all humankind regardless of gender and sexual orientation. Hence, you may be female and lean more toward masculine energy, though this should not prevent your ability to connect with your feminine side. And vice versa. When our feminine energy is blocked, it can become difficult to receive love, assistance, or guidance. Low feminine energy can also inhibit our ability to be vulnerable with our partners and, more importantly, receive money from them! 🤣💀 No, but seriously, you read that right. No femininity = no finances!
And while we love being able to take care of ourselves, wouldn’t it be nice if we had someone to care for us occasionally? Is it fair to always have to be strong, independent, resilient, and self-sufficient? This brand of dominating, “boss” energy can leave us feeling exhausted, isolated, and drained. But it doesn’t have to. Let’s explore how resting in our feminine energy can help us feel more empowered, nurtured, and restored.
…
Healthy masculine energy is focused on doing. It is action-oriented energy that can recognize a problem and create a solution. It’s building, fixing, and repairing. It is analytical, logical, and practical, but this energy can become competitive, controlling, and egotistical if overdone. It’s a fiery energy that must be self-regulated to prevent toxic masculine behavior such as aggression and physical violence.
Exercising this greater yang energy can help us think big and accomplish bigger, but it can also prove draining if we never dare to rely on anyone else. These “I can do it myself” vibrations can ensure results – but of those results, having to do more ourselves will undoubtedly be one. As such, we must allow our masculine willpower to take a backseat to our feminine fluidity at times, to experience greater peace.
Healthy feminine energy is more centered on being. It allows us to be present, receive, connect, nurture, and flow. It is a soft and vulnerable energy that cooperates, compromises, trusts, and forgives. It is an energy in touch with its emotions and adept at creating. However, wounded feminine energy can present as insecure, overwhelmed, or anxious.
Though this greater yin energy is often perceived as sensitive or fragile, it’s actually authentic, vulnerable, and honest. Often empathic, remaining in this energy can become disempowering, as we may begin to prioritize the needs of others above our own. Or worse, we may sacrifice our true selves to be validated and accepted by others. For these reasons, it is important to balance our feminine nature with masculine vibrations as needed.
How to Recognize when our Feminine Energy is Depleted
To be our best selves, we must recognize when our energy is out of alignment. If we’ve become too competitive, controlling, and judgmental, it could be that our masculine energy is dominating our feminine side. This war of worlds can create tension and unrest. Fortunately, there are questions we can ask ourselves to determine if it’s time to replenish the feminine energy within.
Â
Am I Open to Receiving?
Be it gifts, compliments, or help, our ability to receive can directly indicate our connection to feminine energy. In a masculine & feminine dynamic, the masculine energy seeks to protect and provide. To receive this nurturing kindness, we must be open to it.
Am I Taking Care of Myself?
If we are always laser-focused on achieving, there is little room left for us to rest. Our masculine side may persuade us to take that extra class, job, or seminar, but we must take care to attend to our being as well. Proper diet, exercise, and rest can help us regain our feminine perspective.
Am I Seeking to Control?
Masculine energy is like a dog with a bone – never yielding, never stepping back to allow another solution to present itself, and never letting go. This tenacity can serve us in certain situations, but it’s important to recognize when we have gone too far. Forceful demanding and controlling is unhealthy masculine energy that disrupts our energetic balance and can carry severely negative consequences.
Am I in Touch with my Intuition?
What many have described as women’s intuition, scientists have verified, is the heightened ability of women to perceive subtle emotional differences. When we are in tune with our feminine energy, we can better discern nonverbal communication, which is often processed as intuition. When our feminine energy is out of alignment, it is more challenging to read emotional responses.
Am I Being Vulnerable?
Being open, honest, and vulnerable is one of the greatest assets of feminine energy. We resist the urge to suppress our emotions out of prideful fear, an unhealthy masculine trait, and we do the courageous work of being true to our thoughts and feelings – no matter how others perceive us. By doing this, we reclaim our feminine energy and prioritize self-love over the acceptance and validation of another.
How to Reclaim Our Feminine Energy
Balance is key. Exemplifying masculine energy is, at times, necessary, but if we want to experience a more nurturing and complete existence, we must learn to balance both our masculine and feminine sides. For greater femininity, try these techniques:
Â
Receive
The next time you’re tempted to decline help, don’t. Accept it without reservation and resist the urge to feel guilty about it. Accept compliments. Accept gifts. Accept support. Send the universal message loudly and clearly: I AM OPEN TO RECEIVING.
Care for Yourself
Get proper rest. Eat healthy meals. Exercise. Connect with nature. Take a bubble bath. Get a manicure and pedicure. Do all the things that make you feel nurtured, loved, and cared for. And do them often.
Allow
Allow yourself to feel your feelings and emotions. Resist the urge to judge yourself or view yourself as weak for feeling. Allow yourself time to process your emotions. Allow yourself the space to be vulnerable and heal.
Forgive
Step into the feminine power of forgiveness. Let go of the grudges you’ve been holding against others or yourself.
Journal
Connect with yourself and your spirit through written words. Pour out your emotions. Release any strongholds. Write letters to your past, present, and future self. Allow your thoughts to guide you along the way to restoring your feminine energy.
Though we can be sexy in any apparel, our feminine energy can be restricted by certain garments. Try flowing dresses or relaxed skirts. Soft, sensual attire can help usher in a spirit of femininity.
Create
The ultimate feminine superpower, creation, is the pinnacle of feminine energy. We nurture our feminine energy when we cook, paint, write, knit, dance, or perform any activity that taps into our creative side.
